5) 15/10/18 - Mail Online - Man punched 90 year old women

Man punched 90 year old women in the face as she withdrew pension and apologises as he blames 'evil spirits' for his attack.

Mr Sergent punched the elderly woman in the face as she was withdrawing money from a Commonwealth ATM (pictured) in the city's south.

Troy Sergent, 36, punched an elderly women in the face as she withdrew her pension at an ATM in March. The man was arrested and then taken to hospital where he broke a nurse's nose. He pleaded guilty to the charges for both incidents in court on Monday. However, he blamed 'evil spirits' for his actions and said he was 'unwell' at the time. I think this is an example of hard news because this talks about an incident that took place in public and that people should be informed about it so they can be aware of things that go around them. This article acts as a warning that similar incidents can occur again as it has happened before in the same area. I think the audience pleasure is surveillance because the readers are being informed and are sent the message that they should be careful especially elderly people. I think this is an example of quality journalism because it does not talk about anything that is misleading or anything that takes the reader away from the actual story.
