Magazines: Cover LR

1) Add your finished magazine cover as a JPEG image.

2) Type up your feedback from your teacher. If you've received this by email, you can copy and paste it across - WWW and EBIs.

Mark: 11
Grade: B

WWW: You have captured the look and feel of ‘Paper’ magazine very effectively and your image creates brilliant eye-contact with the audience. I agree with your evaluation – the lighting is very successful and the image is the strongest part of the cover but the text and masthead also work well.

EBI: I would also agree with your criticism – it is the background to the image that holds this back from the top levels. The curtain/chair in the far background just takes away the professional edge we’re looking for but this is a good lesson for future reference. The quality of the image also looks a little grainy when compared to the genuine ‘Paper’ covers you’ve put it alongside – something to consider in future with regards to equipment, lighting, location etc.

3) Consider your mark against the mark scheme above. What are the strengths of your production based on the the mark scheme? Think about magazine cover conventions and the media language techniques you have used to communicate with your audience (e.g. mise-en-scene, camera shot etc.)

I think my strengths include the choice of typography because it is very similar to the original font on Paper magazine. I think that my magazine does look similar to the real ones and I had a matching colour scheme for the front cover.

4) Look at the mark scheme again. What can you do to move your mark higher and, if required, move up a level?

I think that I should've chosen an image with a higher resolution as it looks slightly grainy and I should make sure the background is clear so it doesn't divert the consumers attention.

5) What would be one piece of advice you would give a student about to start the same magazine cover project you have just completed?

Make sure to plan your idea is as much detail as possible to avoid wasting time! Make sure you are certain with what you want to do so you don't have to change anything at a later stage!
